When oxidation and reduction takes place simultaneously, the reaction is called redox reaction.
Oxidation: losing of electrons
Reduction: gaining of electrons
Redox Reaction = Reduction + oxidation

Example

\(Cao+H_2 \rightarrow Cu+H_2O\)

In this examples copper oxide is reduced and acts as oxidizing agent and H2 ‚Äč is oxidized and acts as reducing agent.
